A few romantic suggestions for Valentine’s Day

suggestions for Valentine’s Day
suggestions for Valentine’s Day

After the whirlwind of the holidays, ringing in the New Year, and getting through the Super Bowl and the Oscars, the arrival of Valentine’s Day means love is in the air. Whether you are still looking for a romantic spot to celebrate with your partner or are getting the girls together for a fun Galentine celebration, we have gathered some ideas that might just fit the bill:

Dinner for two

Treating yourself and your loved one, whether it’s your significant other or your bestie, to a special meal never gets old. The dining scene in Boston and the wider area is becoming increasingly diverse with offerings covering a wide array of cuisines and budgets.

Check out Rochambeau on Boylston Street for fine French dining, the Beehive in the South End for a romantic bite with live music, Celeste in Union Square for Peruvian fare and communal eating or Latina Kitchen & Bar in Needham for some Latin American fusion flavors.

If you don’t know where to start your search, both Boston.com and Trip Advisor are good places to start!

A travel adventure

If you are considering taking the opportunity to schedule a winter break from your daily routine a weekend away may be in order.

New York City, for instance, never disappoints with a variety of offerings from culinary experiences to theater, performances, museums, shopping, and strolling. If you don’t mind the long drive and are in the mood for a different scene, Montreal is a lovely destination just across the border with Canada.

And if you think the beach is all you need, the warm sand and a cocktail are just a flight away. You can take your pick from domestic destinations like Florida or international spots like Panama or Costa Rica.

What About local experiences?

If you are looking for something special but still local, there are numerous different offerings in Boston during Valentine’s Day weekend:

  • Diablo Glass Studio in Boston holds a glassmaking event every last Friday of the month from 6:30-9:30pm complete with a glassblowing demo and wine. As a special Valentine’s treat, they are offering small-group classes where you will learn how to make different kinds of glass hearts (class dates and prices here).
  • No prior experience is necessary plus you will leave with a memorable gift for a loved one.
  • If you think you can only enjoy the Boston Harbor in the summer, think again. Odyssey Cruises have lined up two Valentine’s Dinner Cruises, one on February 14th and one on the 15th, as well as a Lunch Cruise on the 15th, that come with private tables, fine dining, Boston skyline views, and, of course, music (tickets available on their website).
  • As part of the ongoing Boston Wine Festival, the Boston Harbor Hotel is putting on a luxurious Valentine’s Dinner Dance on February 15th with live music, dancing, and an extravagant all-Champagne dinner showcasing different Moët offerings (tickets available here).
  • If all you wish for is a little relaxation and break from the humdrum of everyday life, a date at your local spa for a couples massage and any additional treatments that might fit your current mood is always a surefire way to emerge relaxed and in the mood for love.
  • If you find yourself newly single, there is even a comedy performance to soothe your sorrows: Break Up! The Musical at the Westin Waterfront Hotel on February 14th (Tickets starting at $10 available here).

Even if Valentine’s Day passes you by because life has gotten really busy, you can still celebrate in the spring by signing up for a Tipsy Chocolate Tour in Boston’s Back Bay (tickets available here starting mid-March).

During the two-hour walking tour you will get the chance to visit historic spots, sample fine confectionaries, enjoy chocolate treats and try a cocoa-based cocktail.

If your weekend of fun includes a unique gift for your loved one, don’t forget to take care of business as well. For example, if you purchase a special piece of jewelry or art, double check whether your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance personal property coverage will cover it if it happens to get lost or stolen.

For example, you may be covered if you are the victim of theft, but what happens if your brand new earring disappears down the sink drain?

In order to also be prepared for situations that are typically covered, such as a fire burning down your home, it is advisable to create and maintain an updated inventory of high value possessions along with corresponding appraisals for each of these items.

These may turn out to be very important and helpful in case you have to file a claim. That is because the average homeowner’s insurance policy comes with certain coverage limits for personal property unless this property is scheduled, or specifically itemized along with its value. Moreover, if the item you file a claim for has a value that is smaller than your deductible, your insurance company will not have to reimburse you for it. If you have any questions regarding how to tailor your coverage, stop by one of our offices and we can discuss different options so that you can schedule certain valuables and obtain more coverage without a deductible.

And just in case you are wondering how this celebration came about, take a look here. Happy Valentine’s Day!
